My Timeline in Rwanda

I had the opportunity to spend two years living and working in East Africa, primarily Rwanda. I sought out to learn: a new culture, what the majority world looks like, earthen construction, architecture and engineering. By the end of my time in Rwanda I was able to check all of these off of my list.

Was it safe?

I felt very safe from the moment I arrived in Rwanda. You could feel an overwhelming sense of safety from the city and the communities.

What was it like?

It was easy to acclimate. I definitely felt like it was home after I hit my 6 month mark. Some of the harder parts of living there was not the sporadic water and electricity cut offs, or the bad data connections, but the fact that there was lack of accountability for one person to get their work done. Every task was a collective effort and this is backwards from my capitalist, American programming. All in all, I am so glad I learned from my coworkers about how to work as a team and feel proud together rather than one person getting the glory.
